General Flower Care Tips
Whether you've received a beautiful bouquet or picked up flowers from your local florist, a few simple care tips can make a real difference to how long they last and how good they look.
Essential Flower Care Tips
- Get them into water quickly. Flowers may seem fatigued when you first receive them, so replace them into water as soon as possible.
- Use lukewarm water. Blooms may open more rapidly if placed in lukewarm water rather than cold.
- Keep away from electronics. Plant containers should not be placed near electrical equipment or wires, as these generate heat that shortens flower life.
- Protect surfaces. Always place plant containers on a mat to protect the surface beneath.
- Handle with care. Some flowers may cause skin irritation and rashes, so wash your hands thoroughly after handling plants. It's advisable to keep flowers out of reach of children.
- Watch out for lily pollen. Lily pollen can stain fabric and clothing permanently. Remove the stamens when the flower opens to prevent staining.
- Decorative items are for display only. Any decorative material included with flowers — candles, fruit, or other decorations — is for display purposes only and should not be eaten unless otherwise advised by the florist.
