Creative Uses for Dried Flowers

Flowers carry many meanings and memories. Just because your flowers are at the end of their life doesn't mean they have no further use. There are many creative and beautiful ways to give your flowers a second life.

Creative Ideas for Reusing Flowers

  • Make potpourri. Dry flower heads and crush them gently, then mix with scented essential oils to create fragrant potpourri for your home. Lavender, roses, and chamomile work particularly well.
  • Dry entire bouquets. Hang bouquets upside down in a warm, dry, dark place for 2–3 weeks. Once dried, they make stunning long-lasting decorations that preserve the memory of a special occasion.
  • Create decorative displays. Place dried petals in a clear glass lamp, vase, or jar for an elegant decorative piece. Layer different colours for a striking visual effect.
  • Romantic rose petal bath. Fresh rose petals can be scattered in a warm bath for a luxurious, romantic experience. Add a few drops of essential oil for extra indulgence.

More Ideas to Try

  • Pressed flower art. Press individual blooms between heavy books for several weeks, then use them to create framed artwork, bookmarks, or greeting cards.
  • Floral ice cubes. While flowers are still fresh, freeze small edible flowers in ice cube trays for beautiful drink garnishes at your next gathering.
  • Compost them. Flowers make excellent compost material. Add them to your compost bin to create nutrient-rich soil for your garden.
  • Natural confetti. Dried flower petals make beautiful, biodegradable confetti for weddings and celebrations — much kinder to the environment than paper or plastic alternatives.
